4th of July Weekend 2010

What a great 3 day 4th of July weekend.
Tom and I spent Saturday afternoon with Ryon & Candace & kids for Ryon's birthday barbeque. He did his best burned-black hot dog for me which was fabulous with mustard, ketchup and kraut onboard. Tom went for the brauts and we both enjoyed their fresh 'garden greens' salad along with Candace's famous potato salad... superb!!

Sunday Tom & I went for a drive out Hwy 99 and turned west on Airlie Road, ending up at Dancing Oaks Nursery. We drove around and scoped out the many plant types, the conference center and just enjoyed the beauty and solitude of the area. We were delighted to see a large red tailed hawk and the Dancing Oaks folks have a really beautiful kitty. I always notice beings like that. The highlight for that day was a bit of off road travel to the top of Oak Grove hill where you can see a breath-taking view of the Willamette Valley to the east with the Cascades in the distance.... very cool.

Monday we decided to take the Irish Bend Road south of town but ended up on a completely new adventure. We actually found a road we had not seen before and loved the wonderful pastures full of pinto ponies, Hereford bulls and many sheep, llamas and clover fields with lots of bee hives. Brownsville was at it's historic best, resplendently bathed in glorious sunshine. We took the back roads to Lebanon where we refueled the car and us.
Over all, a delightful 3 day weekend.
